This past November, we celebrated my son’s 6th birthday at Walt Disney World by building a droid at the Droid Depot in Galaxy’s Edge! The whole experience was completely customizable, fun, and can be done in 15-20 minutes.
Registration and Price:
Each droid costs $99.99 plus tax and comes with a carry box. Other accessories including personality chips, backpacks, and decorative stickers are also available for purchase.
Important information:
- For ages 3+
- The experience area is limited to the builder and one guest. Other members of the party can view from outside the building area.
- The droids are not eligible for any discounts. However, discounts can be applied to extra accessories.
The Droid Depot:
The Droid Depot is located in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios. Inside the workshop, you will find an experience unlike any other as you build a droid that is truly one of a kind!
The building process:
We arrived at the Droid Depot at our reservation time and was direct to the “Pre-Registered” line. Next to the lines was a wall displaying all the different parts available to customize our droids. Colton decided on the BB series! The cast member gave us a basket with instructions and directed us to the conveyer belt. The guide was easy enough for my 6-year-old to decipher on his own.
After collecting all our parts we were escorted to one of the 14 building stations. At the station, we found a pictured building instruction, tools, and spare parts that we need to construct our droid. The building instructions were also easy enough for Colton to follow by himself and he only needed help with the screwdriver.
After Colton finished building his droid, the cast member placed it in a holding area. Then she had Colton hit the activate button and his droid came to life! The cast member taught us how to use the remote and that’s it! We just built our very own personalized droid!
We went straight to the play area across from the Droid Depot so Colton can play with his droid right away!
Final thoughts:
• The droid building at Galaxy’s Edge was definitely a great experience and based on the abilities and personalization of the droid, I think it was worth the price.
• I recommend this activity for children ages 5+. At that age, they should be able to make all the choices and do the building themselves.
• My one con about the experience is the number of guests that can be in the building area. I did wish that they allow more than 1 builder and 1 guest so Jeff didn’t have to miss out on this special birthday experience with Colton.
